District 155 Celebrates First-Ever Girls Flag Football Season

District 155 launched its inaugural girls flag football season with 180 student-athletes across all four high schools to compete at the junior varsity and varsity levels during the 2025-2026 school year.
District 155 celebrated this historic milestone with a Girls' Flag Football Jamboree on August 30, 2025, bringing together athletes, families, coaches, and community members to recognize the beginning of a new sport, which was sanctioned by the Illinois High School Association in the fall of 2024.
During the celebration, Board Member Amy Blazier recognized the athletes for their leadership and determination. “You’re learning the rules, building new skills, and finding your rhythm as a team. But what makes this year remarkable is that you are not just learning, you are leading,” Blazier said. “Every practice, every game, every moment you share is shaping the legacy of this program. The culture you build today will carry on long after you graduate.”
Board President Nicole Pavoris also reflected on the significance of the moment and the lasting impact the athletes will have on the future of the sport in District 155. “Today is about more than a game. It’s about possibility,” Pavoris said. “Years from now, when younger students put on their jerseys for the first time, they will remember you, the ones who showed them what was possible.”
